I’m just curious, this topic aimed towards the more elder members of elysiun, show your humble beginings (the 1st projects that are no longer on the internet) i just want to see how everyone started out. So to start it out, my 1st horrible “project”…
This is a good topic, anyway here is my first project, where the little skills I learned were first put into a proper scene (Blender render) :o <prepare yourself for the yuk-ness.
I remember I hated using meshs, I could never understand how ppl could use those square unwieldy meshs and not the curvy nurbs so I would always have fun streching the NURBS objects, i would have so many doughnut renders it wasn’t funny, until i desicovered the limits of nurbs which is when i relised the power of meshs and the subdivision button , and now i can’t stand nurbs, except when using curves or skinning. (On a side note you said (fonix) that this topic is aimed at the older users of blender, would you consider 19 years old…old?<just checking if i qualify for oldness lol)
My first image would currently be at the mudpuddle gallery, but it corrupted. Mine was a beveled cube with musgrave texture with a bunch of alpha planes through it and a lamp. My second is a bar of soap and a towel.
This was also before I discovered the benefit of OSA
I can’t possibly show you my humble beginnings - because
it’s lost forever. It’s wiped off some small harddisk
many MANY years ago, but I can describe it:
It was some weird spikes rendered to look
like ice-mountains on Real3D (Amiga 2000)
and I had NO idea what I did to create those (that time).
That was my very first encounter with a 3d program.
My first was a sea… I’m too lazy to put it up … it was good actually but take into account that I used multiple 3d apps for several years… argh who cares…
I’m afraid you don’t understand. When I ran Blender for the first time many years ago, I hit the render button to see what it would do. Up came a black render; the first thing I ever made in Blender.
I’m sure everybody has done this when they first ran Blender, except for those who were introduced to the newer versions of Blender that by default start off with a cube, lamp, world color and a camera.
Well my humble beginnings weren’t in Blender so I guess I shouldn’t post them here hehe, but this is the first thing I did in Blender as I was getting to grips with the UI/workflow etc.
And now when I compare that to the current head I am working on, I realise just how crap this is

Before which versions of blender was there nothing in the startup scene?
