Was looking for a character to model as this is my first attempt at a character I thought it might be a good idea to keeping it simply . I’ve always liked the silver surfer character and found this cover that got me going. I think I may need to go back and do some more work on the mesh but for a first attempt I’m quite pleased. I also had a go at doing the armature for SS and thanks to all the great tuts available found it quite easy to follow.
I’ll have a go at this, but if I start to tweak the mesh now will all the weight painting etc be undone?
Should you only start working on the armature once the mesh is complete?
You should pretty much only start on the armature once the mesh is completely done, RVKs as an exception. As a first attempt at a character he looks pretty good, and the face looks human, which is interesting cause a lot of people have trouble with that. Still though, you fell into the same pitfall I did at the beginning, i.e. drawing the shape of the most well-known muscles in the body. There’s so much more to them than what we percieve as the key features, and really the only way to learn is by studying anatomy and reference photos. Hey though, as a first character, it was a much better job than I did. Keep going.
Hmmm… you know, that does look pretty good, you’re still better than I was, but I think you’re hitting a topology problem, cause some things look a little choppy. Could I see a wireframe?
I think I need to go back and rework the arms. The shoulders, elbow and hands don’t look right. I not sure about the knees either. His mid sections and hips/leg joint has come up ok.
