Simple Watch

Hi,

My son has a spiderman watch. I saw it on the table last night and figured I would give it a shot. I know this is simple but I would still be interested in some feedback. I am planning on rigging it and was thinking IK would be the way to go. Here is the image:

Here is the blend file:

I changed the face plate because the with the clear plastic it was too hard to photograph.

Thanks!

The watch is actually very amazing and beautiful. Thanks for sharing about it.

Looks decent! It’s a bit unclear whether the case body (the head) is metal or plastic. The straps look quite flat as well, but this might just be the angle of the camera.

What’s your plan for rigging? You have a wrist to put it on I suppose? lol.

Thanks howtoblend for the feedback. I am not very good at texturing so I could see how you would be confused on some of the textures. I started modeling this to show my son you could make anything you want. He is 6 years old and is starting to show some interest in 3D. I really hope he picks it up.

Plan for rigging, great question, I have no idea. I started watching the humane rigging by Nathan Vegdahl for ideas. I was thinking IK but I am not sure that is the best way to approach it.

Any ideas?

That’s great! It would be so cool to become a blender-wiz at a young age.

As for your rigging concerns. It depends I guess what you have in mind. If you are just posing the watch into closed and open, a better solution would be ‘Spline IK’ which is technically not IK, actually. lol. But if you have in mind all sorts of weird animations with the strap requiring precise positioning go with IK.
