Hello community!
I’m a TD from Venezuela. In our small studio, we worked with Blender Studio Tools as much as possible. and well, I wanted to automate the process of setting up a new project to get started quickly on production. So I created this tool to manage the projects and to configure the Blender Studio Tools addons at the same time. And yes, to use Kitsu as our main backend for managing tasks and such things.
I finished a proof of concept of the app and tagged it as v0.6.5. It’s unstable and It’s pretty basic at the moment, but I have a clear view of growing it and of where I want to land to call it stable and feature complete.
You can read more on our blog entry and on the docs:
So, a bit of a disclaimer about the use of LLMs in development. I finished an MVP, coded with the help of LLMs. It’s not meant to be a “vibe coded” app, since I have been checking the code but it definitively got messy at some point. I am currently fixing the mess of the current code by hand and will get it in shape before adding more features. Any ways, I do believe on “hand made” code but it just takes more time. It was my first time coding with an LLM so, it was an interesting experience.
We would love for people to test it, or just view the idea to see if it’s something valuable. I know I will use it for every production we create but it would be great to know what others think about it, whether you find it useful or how do you solve the issue at your studios.
So, the project has been released under GPL v3.0, so you can try it, break it and let me know about it .
We also put together a small video to quickly show what we are doing:
So, I hope to hear from you with any questions or comments.
This sounds like a great tool to use for my own work, sadly as I am fully entrenched without SVN for my own short film it would I think in theory make things difficult if I switched to SVN right now. Not sure. So at least for my current short, I am unable to fully test it out. Also as I am using Renderman as my renderer, I am using Blender 5.0.1 since that is the latest version that Renderman 27.3 suports - due to Python version - I can’t switch back to the last LTS version.
Anyways I have been testing it out regardless and aside from some errors (cannot download Blender from blender.org) it looks great! I am able to at least connect to my Kitsu server successfully. Looks promising and I will be keeping an active eye on this.
Hey! that is great to hear! It shouldn’t be difficult to switch to SVN. Are you using some sort of safeguards for files backups? And yes, that’s the main purpose of the hub, to be able to keep your Blender versions locked to the production from start to finish. Could you tell me what error it gives you when trying to download blender? If you see nothing on the status bar, please run it form the terminal.
Nice use case! I haven’t considered other render engines different from cycles. Will keep that in mind when integrating flamenco.
Thank you so much for trying it out, and for the feedback!
Hi Ernesto, congratulations on putting together OpenStudioHub! Streamlining pipeline setup and integrating Kitsu directly with Blender Studio Tools solves a genuine bottleneck for smaller studios and independent productions. It takes a lot of effort to bridge task management with daily production workflows and cleaning up an MVP codebase to make it production ready is totally standard in pipeline development. I’ll definitely check out the documentation and the video walkthrough looking forward to seeing how the tool matures and handles multi user setups as you stabilize the release.
Not a huge deal as I mentioned the current release of Renderman 27.3 doesn’t support or run on any version of Blender beyond 5.0.1 due to Python version mismatch.
Hello again! well @projectwidow I think I fixed the issue that you had, it seems that it wasn’t adding the client header on the URL request. Any ways, here is an updated version of the hub If you want to try it. It’s going to be available for 90 days
Try it and let me know if it fixes the issue for you. Also, in order to use the SVN, just install docker on your system and you will be able to install SVN locally. The hub will use it automatically. I will make a short video this next week, will share it here when it’s done
Thank you for your kind words @Arvo ! I will keep it up.
