Single material or UV

Hey Guys, I need a material that matches the one shown on this character:
Just wondering if it would be smarter to do a material, or if I should look at UV mapping the texture. It will be used for animation purposes. If you would suggest material, could I get a little help with it, little over my head. Thanks.

I’d UV map it if it has to be animated. Then small details will stay in place while the character moves.
