Sintel blocked by Sony on Youtube

It isn’t the fault of sony, youtube automatically does this, antoni4040

If you raise some noise, flag the copyright infrindgement as being a mistake it will right itself. The copyright id system for youtube is not all that smart…

Stupid bots!

Wow, wish the Blender Foundation could sue youtube for making them look bad. This is basically slander and it does affect peoples opinion of the Blender Foundation. It directly affects the revenue of Blender Foundation. If this was a newspapper, there would be a lawsuit.

People are getting way too bent out of shape about this. A bot that trawls videos on behalf of a company without the manpower to sit thousands of people in front of computers to watch youtube videos all day came up with a false positive. Corrections have already been filed and these cut and dry things are usually fixed within the day. None of the other hundred or so sources where you can watch Sintel have been affected. Youtube is a free service that processes more data every day than a person could watch in a lifetime. There are going to be hiccups. Can’t get indignant about it just because it, unfortunately, happened to the BF.

I dont know if it is related, but “rip-off illegal DVD” of sintel (a joke for an openmovie) were sold in indonesia, with Sony logo on the fake cover.

Ok, bots for ID’s, music (automatic recognition). But for copyrighted movies, pornography, violence and other types of prohibited images?
Are you people sure that there are no humans working for google, analyzing the videos, even in high speed or watching image thumbnails from the videos?
I do not know, I do not think as an excuse the amount of videos and blaming the bots. They should have contacted those who had uploaded Sintel and then decide if the video would be blocked.

Sorry for the spam, but I try to promote gooseberry on slashdot. So upvote this please:

Someone is responsible. You tube offers a service free or not they have some responsibilities. I think Sony and Youtube both needs to donate to gooseberry.
I agree. If this mistake was done automatically. Then they need to get real people to to check before blocking.

Now Blendernation is offline.

I posted a old home movie on YouTube and it got flagged for copyright since the movie contained footage from a wedding reception including DJ music.
I filled out the dispute form and the video was reinstated within 24 hours. I suggest filling out the form if this happens to any of you.

Probably from the reddit traffic:

So Sintel is still available, just not on YouTube?

It was produced in 2010…what took them (Sony) so long to complain?

sintel is still available on youtube, just not on the blender foundation channel

Sorry, sort of overeacted

In retrospect, I think we’ll all be somewhat happy about this. It’ll be unblocked soon and it gave blender a ton of attention through reddit. I wish blender could become part of the vernacular when talking about 3d content creation. This is a step.

Just checked blender.org and it’s down too…

I think it’s time to run to the hills… The whole digital world is crashing on us!!

Quickly, make your choice, the Red Pill or the Blue Pill…

Corporate apologist much?
NO!!! It’s NOT “the only practical solution” … the ONLY “practical solution” is to REQUIRE proof of infringement before anything is taken down. Period. Innocent until PROVEN guilty. … As it stands, the little guy gets screwed every fricken time.

And your last comment “There will always be mistakes. If you don’t like it, don’t use the service” demonstrates just how far up your ass your head is.
I don’t normally post such comments to specific people, but SERIOUSLY dude, your attitude is f***ing messed up here.

Regardless what YouTube’s (or any other place’s) rules are, they DO NOT super-cede National or International law. Period. … If their rules are illegal, then that’s all there is to it.
An illegal contract will not stand up in any court.

I’m seeing to many “apologists” in this thread, who seem to think that “Hey, mistakes will happen.” makes this all okay.
It is decidedly NOT okay, and this sort of BS happens far far too often on YouTube. All too often, people have to fight hard to get their content re-instated. If it’s easy for you (as some have stated) then you’re in the lucky minority.

As to this being YouTube’s fault, not Sony’s fault … Well, HOW did Sony get copyright credit for this int he first place then? YouTube just “assumed” that Sony hold the copyright? o.O … I hardly think so. Somehow, somewhere, some Sony schmuck claimed this as Sony content.

As to people “over-reacting” … uh NO!! … People aren’t reacting ENOUGH to this sort of abuse of the law and system. People are lying down for it all-too-easily, saying, “Oh, it was just a legitimate mistake.” … yeah, right … sure … I’ve got a bridge to sell you too.

Seriously people!! This has been a known problem with YouTube’s system for YEARS now. What’s it gonna take for people to make a stand? Does it have to be YOUR PERSONAL content that gets pulled? WTF!!! This affects us all, people.
YouTube might be a private website, but it is STILL beholden to National and International laws.

Someone up there commented about suing YouTube for defamation or slander, and I totally agree!!

I’ve seen no-one post anything where we can comment … so I share this.
I started this thread on the YouTuber support forum. Chime in please.

Nothing will change if we don’t stand up for what is right.
