Skeleton not attached to mesh

I’ve imported an FBX mesh in Blender and made an armature for it.
However, when I try to connect the armature to the figure (ctrl p, with automatic weights), the figure doesn’t follow the armature in pose mode.
When I move the armature in object mode, the mesh follows.
Does anyone know the solution for this problem?
