Hello folks! I am in the middle of a WIP, and I made an interesting skin SSS shader that looks fairly realistic (to me at least) so I thought you guys would be interested. Here is a pic of it:

So tell me what you think!
I will post the link to the blend when my WIP is done, or if enough people want it… An added texture will increase the effect of realism.
EDIT: I typed this really fast, I have edited some typos…
looks interesting - can you post what options / techniques you used to get to that point?
This is a ramp on shader, as said in one of the poll options… Sad really, only one person likes Grapes…
Any ways, the shader is a special blend of a few different techniques of faking SSS, but is all comacted in one shader. As I said, if enough people are interested, I can post it. I also have a neat new way of faking fire effects, but that will remain secret, at least for awhile…
I’d be interested. That’s actually not the SSS-look I expected but it looks fine though. It would be nice if you posted your .blend file or explained the settings
For a plastice toy, or cartoon, it is fine. I prefer the SSS python script myself.
I haven’t had enough experience in SSS (or ramp shader, whatever…) to be a leaving a crit here at all.

Here was my first attempt at SSS effect, a while ago…

Yes, I know its not SSS per-se, but, its the effect I was going for (A plasticy cartoony look like Spin said) for my WIP animation. I’ll post the blend with just the shader later, if I have time. Im leaving for all of next week, so I might not be able too. For real SSS I do recommend the SSS script, but for quick(er) fake SSS, I think this shader will suffice.
Ok, here is the blend file, for those that want it: http://gallery.mudpuddle.co.nz/albums/public/skin_material.blend
It is a mix of a minnaert shader with a dark value less than 1, a ramp shader set on shader mode, making the red parts, and AO, to bring out the brighter part in life. A feww other tweaks here and there as well, if you use it, please give credit…
EDIT: I would like to see this shader on some different models if anyone has anythey have tried it on, I just want to see how well it works, and any Comments or Critisism you have to make it better…
Nice shader, but your reflectivity and specularity values are just too much over the top, for me at least.
Using that old Refl+spec=<1 and Refl<.8 rules of thumb, I used .681 refl and .116 spec for this render with exsactly the same light you put in your test .blend.
EDIT: Different AO and light setup. Some mesh errors in the original model corrected, and textured (crappy) background.
Legal stuf… I do not remember who modelled that girl from Blenderman, but model and texture are his, not mine.
