Skin modifier collapse plane at center

Hey everyone!
I am new to blender so sorry if the question is kind of oblivious.
I am trying to use a skin modifier to create a glove.
I begin by creating a plane and collapsing it in its center using alt+m
I am then able to use the vertices in object mode.
But when I switch to edit mode for some odd reason the vertices is deselected and nothing under heaven can make it editable.
Please help!
Thanks
Marco

Marco, I think you have it backward. It should be in edit mode where you are able to edit the vertices and object mode where you can’t edit the mesh but can move it around. Are you sure you have the modes right in your post?

So to clarify in object mode I am able to move it around
But in edit mode I am not able to select it in order to edit it

Have you made sure that you are in vertex edit mode and pressed A a couple of times to make sure you have a vertex selected? If you have and it’s not finding a vertex, you can CTRL-LeftClick (if you have the default of right-click-select) to add a vertex which should give you something you can work with.
