Skinning question..

I want to make a character from several mesh pieces like arms hands etc… and skin it to an armature so that they behave as one mesh.

Is there a fast approach to this? I really like to use the bone-heat feature and it looks more than good enough for my project, but when I separate my model into pieces beforehand it falls apart at the seams when I try to pose it.

You need to select a bone (eg; Forearm_L) while in Pose mode, then Shft-Select the left forearm Mesh and Ctrl-P >> Bone. Parent each separate mesh part to it’s bone that way and you won’t need to use any Bone Heat or Weightpainting.
