Sky, premul and key.

Can anyone offer a technical explanantion of the differences between these three settings when rendering RGBA’s?

The following is to the best of my understanding:

  • Sky’ will render the background from world settings.

  • Premul’ will render the background transparent and calculate antialiasing where the objects meet the background. (I use this most of the time to avoid ‘jaggies’.)

  • Key’ will render the background transparent without calculating antialiasing. (The only time I use this when the end-use program can’t read an alpha channel, and only an exact RGB color key.)

Thanks. That helps.
