Hello!
I think this is my first post on blenderartists but I’ve been using blender for about 3 years.
At the moment I’m working on the last clip for my showreel and I’ve run into a problem I’ve experienced several times but not been able to solve.
In my scene I have a robot with some reflective surfaces and I use a sky texture for the reflections. I also have a shadow-only surface under the robot to get it’s shadow on the table it’s standing on. I then render this out to composit in After Effects over the footage I’ve filmed of the table.
My problem is that the sky texture is visible in the shadows.
This is not a specific problem to this project cause it’s the same when I do it with just a cube and a plane in the startup-scene.
Is this a bug or am I missing a setting somewhere? My usual workaround have been to use my footage as the sky texture cause then it doesn’t matter that it’s visible, but that don’t really work for this project.
Is there some other way to do the reflections that won’t give this problem?
Are you using an HDR image? If so that is likely the culprit…I’ve NEVER had this issue because I’ve never used one of those to light a scene. You may need to composite from 2 separate scenes, one with and one without the sky map.
Edit: The uploaded image is transparent sky BG with shadows on shadow only plane.
Why not just post a link to your blend file (including any images packed in the blend) so other users can see exactly what you are doing and maybe find a solution to your problem rather than everyone trying to guess your settings.
Great idea!
To make it easier to understand my project and to reduce rendertimes I made a different blend file with just a cube and a plane. The world- and shadowsettings are basically identical to my robot-project and the textured shadow is clearly there. When I render it I get this:
