Slow Render

Hi all,

Well, I have a question that I (did search for first) but can’t seem to find an answer to.

I decided to make my first animation in Blender, a simple UV sphere following a path w\camera on separate path following as well, stars set in world background, nothing fancy.

I know rendering times vary, depending on what you have going and such, however, even with image rendering, 2.5 seems to have a render lag or slowdown that I didn’t get in previous versions of Blender. As a matter of fact, if I use the X64 beta non installer Blender version, the image render is extremely fast, 32 older Blender, very fast as well.

Now, the animation is 225 frames, (as stated above, simple UV sphere, world stars, nothing major) I think 1024 verts at best and if I render as mpeg it would take nearly a minute a shot. I upped the buffer size which increased my speed dramatically, about a frame every 2 seconds.

HOWEVER, if I decide to add anything else like a subsurf to the UV sphere, lighting, effects, or any small detail like texture, the render time is a frame every minute or so. I’m not talking major changes or anything, just texture for the UV sphere will cause this alone.

I am leaving the anti-aliasing lowered to get the 1 frame rendered per minute but of course then it looks choppy but if I leave it on, even 5X, the render time shoots up dramatically.

So, should this be happening? I don’t have the issue in older Blender versions. Maybe some settings issues? Most were default.

Thanks,

Paul

You haven’t attached your blend file

Well, that’s because I don’t have it. If it seems to get too messy I simply remake it. (4th time now I think)

1- UV sphere, 32 and 32
2- Bezier curves extruded or bent around area as path

Sphere is set on one path, Camera is set on other, Camera tracks Sphere, World set with stars. 225 (give or take) frame set.

That’s pretty much it. Now, if I add anything like lighting, subsurf, etc… it makes the render go from a frame every few seconds or lower to over a minute a frame.

Sorry for that, I can remake it later if not enough information. np.

Thanks,

Paul

Without a blend its impossible for anyone to know what other settings you may be using, not just the objects you have in your scene. Also you’re the one who has the problem and you should be making it as easy as possible for other users to help you out

Um… that’s why I stated this…

There was no need for your remark.

I’m surprised this is marked as “solved.” I think it’s more like “stalled” while we wait for gimpguy to upload a .blend file.
(Unless we’re trying to stamp out the heated discussion between gimpguy and Richard – which isn’t all that heated, really. Just some miscommunication, and we’re over it now. Plus Richard is one of the nicest, no-nonsense guys on this forum.) Will you be posting a .blend soon, gimpguy?
