Slowdown ?

Hi, i am experienceing some problems with jerkyness/slowdown in the 3d window on blender and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows how to rectify it.

When i first load up blender everything is fine, and the 3d view is as smooth as butter. But gradually over a time period of say 30 minutes, the screen gets more jerky and looses its smoothness.

If i close blender, then start it up again and open the same file as i was just working on, everything is smooth again to begin with but gets slower again as before.

PC info, not sure if this helps but it may:

-Pentium D 2.8Ghz
-1GB Ram
-128mb ATi Radion X600 se

Other information:
This computer is relatively new and therefore the only versions of blender i have used on it are v2.4 and v2.41.
I have used previous versions of blender on my other computer (Pentium 4 2.8Ghz, 1GB Ram, 256mb NVIDEA Ge-Force 5500) with no sign of the same slowdown effect.

Any thoughts are very welcome

dc

First of all I think you meant 2.40 and 2.41, not 4.1.

Naturally, as you get more verts in a model, blender slows down. Try making a blend with tons of verts, see if it’s the same type of slowdown.

Blender has a problem with ATI cards, which I why I got Nvidia when I got a new card. Never had an ATI card but i’ve heard about that enough times.

Saxophoner, more verts does slow a file down but if it’s smooth when it’s re-opened compared to when he closed it it doesn’t give the correct explanation.

Yes, sorry - ive changed the versions to correct now thanks.

The slowdown i’m experienceing is similar to that when you make a model with loads of verts - but its not that.
I know it isnt because of the vert count because if i reload blender and load up the file i was just working on, its smooth again in the begginning.
Also, when its jerky, if i go file>new so that just the initial cube is there - the jerkyness remains even though there are just 4 verts.
:frowning:

Ah, thanks icoxo - that would explain why i was not experiencing the jerkyness on my NVIDEA pc.

Is there any way or anything i can do to minimize the effect?

I dont mind restrating blender occationally, but its just a bit of a pain :-?
