Smoke - cant seem to get wind to work with smoke.

Hey guys,

I have a few shots at work that require smoke sims for some distant camp fires, and i’m told blender has a pretty cool smoke simulator. I’ve used fumefx and PhoenixFD so quite familiar with basic concepts of fluid sims.

I have a question about Smoke and wind.

I set up a quick smoke simulation test; box emitting smoke.

My question is, how do i get wind to effect the smoke?

I believe i added a wind force field, however adjusting the Strength didn’t produce any results when hitting Alt-A

Also i noticed when i attempted to rotate the wind force field, it also rotates the smoke container.

Any suggestions very welcome. I haven’t used blender in some years, so extra clarity is good

Thanks
David.

Simple example of wind force field attached.
Just a basic smoke sim with a force field added

Thank you Richard, that’s great to see in action! could you explain the basic theory of setting up the elements. So far I create an emitter (cube) then hit space and search for quick smoke … this applies a fluid container around the sphere, i then go to the force field tab > type > wind … Doing this, the wind has no influence on the smoke.

I’ll try and take apart the file you post and see what i can figure out.

Thanks again
