Smoke Coordinates Mayhem!

Hey all,

I’m really curious if anyone else has experienced this. Basically, since 2.55 came out, I’ve been unable to accurately render smoke. I do everything the same as in 2.54 and earlier, but something is seriously wrong with the coordinates.

Instead of the normal smoke, I either get a render showing several blobs that seem to be repeated (In “Generated” mode), or nothing at at all.

Any help would be appreciated.

I’m on an Intel MacBook Pro 10.5.8 2.6 GHz RAM.

(The blender version is 2.55 r33584).

Well… what exactly ARE you doing that’s the same?

Not a whole lot we can say before you walk us through it.

Sure.

  1. Created Domain and Emitter
  2. Assigned particle system to emitter
  3. Assigned “Domain” to cube and “Flow” to plane
  4. Added Volume material to cube, put the Density to “0”
  5. Added voxel data texture, assigned domain object as domain cube
  6. Checked “Influence” > Density

Basically, the smoke sim works fine in the open GL viewport. The problem is getting it to show up in renders. I get very glitchy results, where sometimes I see a very small image of the smoke, but in sort of a orthographic perspective.

Other times, there is nothing rendered, no matter how many times I reassign materials. Even after baking a smoke sim, nothing shows up.

And what build? Early ones wouldn’t render correctly. Sounds like a materials/texture issue IMHO. I often use the cloud addon and copy a lot of settings from there.
