Smoke & Fire Rendering on AMD GPU?

Does anyone know if it will soon be possible to use the AMD cards to render smoke and fire simulations? - as GPU rendering is much faster for me than CPU.
I am trying to render a few sequences of a spacecraft on a launchpad, with smoke coming from the engine - and using the GPU would be great. Without the smoke, I am getting a render at 1920x1080 in about 2mins [per frame] - whereas WITH the smoke, using the CPU i am getting a 1280x720 render in about 8-9mins [per frame].

It seems only Nvidia CUDA cards are supported. Either I buy a new card [!!!] or wait for blender to support AMDs.

Does anyone know if this is soon in the pipeline? And if soon, any idea how soon?

[BTW - GPU rendering really opened my eyes to the great usability of Blender recently. I am/was a Cinema4d user  ]

This is not currently supported, CUDA only

No time plan. If ‘soon’ you mean a month then assume not. If ‘soon’ you mean 12 months then assume maybe. If it’s important that you use GPU rendering then just buy a suitable card. If you don’t want to buy a card then it’s really not important to you so it then doesn’t matter how long it takes to be possibly implemented.

Believe me I DO want to buy a card if its not going to be soon.
Thanks for giving me some sort of realistic time-frame.
