why dont you use the world options for your sky. i dont really know what you want to do here, your description wasnt very clear.

sorry i was being rushed to school… idk about the world option… what im trying to do is show a gas pushing the oxygen out of the bottle. im going to use this in a project to show how to preserve wine… after i get the gas to fill the bottle im going to put a cork in it to keep it there.

thanks
Justin

first lemme say for someone thats only had blender for 3 days this looks pretty good. I think you may have been on the right track with smoke. I’m guessing that you were using particles with halos. There are a lot of reasons halos might not show up. if your using blender (not yafray) make sure that your “depth” setting on your transparent materials is set high enough, 3 or 4 should do it. also, make sure your not using yafray, it wont do halos. Visualizing one gas displacing another sounds tough… Maybe you would get a better result if you used a transparent mesh object inside the bottle that has a slightly different index of refraction and then you could animate the mesh to make it fill the shape of the inside of the bottle.

thanks for the advice. i was using particles and halos… and im not using yafray. im not going to show the oxygen being displaced. just the argon filling the bottle. yea i guess its about time i look at an animation tutorial  when i render it the particles inside the bottle dont show and the particles wont stay inside the bottle. so they show around the bottle but not inside the bottle…
thanks again
Justin

ok im working on the mesh now… i think this is going to work!!!
heres what i have so far. any advice on changes to be made welcome!!!
thanks

Ps. is there a way to limit one mesh from crossing another?

ok i want to start working on the animation now i have read a couple of tutorials, and this may be dumb but i canot find the Ikey button… please help me find it
thanks

Justin

pssssst It’s between the u and o

wow. its been one of those weeks for me… maybe that is not the button i am looking for… the key that allows you to change the object only in that frame? not all frames.

Thanks

Justin
edit… nevermind reread the tut and it makes sence now…

Go to the frame you want the object to have certain properties on. Give the object those certain properties, then hit the letter “I” key on your keyboard. This brings up a list of different types of keyframes you can set. Set the appropriate ones for the preset properties you want. You may want to watch Greybeard’s video tutorial on keyframing and IPO curves. I’ll link to it in a bit.

[Edit] Here ya go: link:wink:

ok i will watch it when you put the link thank you. i just figured out how to move objects around… but can i change the shap like in edit mode? it doesnt seem to work
thanks
justin

Edit mode is the only time you can change the shape of a mesh. What exactly do you mean by “it doesn’t work”?

[Edit] If you just figured out how to move things, you might want to know a few essential keys.

G is grab, or move. (Which you just discovered)
S is scale, for making things larger or smaller.
X is delete.
E is extrude, like if you had a plane you might extrude the face to make a cube. (Ignore for the moment that Blender has a default cube shape already…)
B is box select, so you can drag a box around whatever you want to select.
A is select/deselect all.
X limits the movement of a selection to the global X axis. Hitting it twice restricts movement to the mesh’s local X axis.
Y does the same thing as X but limits movement to the global or local Y axis.
Z does the same as X and Y but for the global and local Z axes.

Did I miss anything? I think those are the most important ones to learn right away.

when i make a change to the shape of the object in edit mode it changes in all frames. i want to just change in that frame only… thanks

Justin

Pay attention to the short part on shape keys in the video tutorial. That should be what you want.

i just watched that whole tutorial. it helped a little. but i dont think i got the point of what im trying to do out… sorry what i meant is more like this how would i animate a cube turning into a triangle?
Thanks
Justin

Hmm, I could have sworn there was a part at least a few second long in there about shape keys. Anyway, use the forum search function and search in Blender General for the query “Shape Keys”.

aww shape keys… this looks to be it. i went ahead and started rendering the aimation… its on like frame 40 or 150 i think at about 1 frame per minute and half. hehe getting my first tast of feeling slow
thanksa million
Justin

The defaults for rendering are Shadow,Ray, and OSA all on, if you turn them off, the render will go much faster (but probably won’t look as good, in particular you wont’ see ray-shadows, but to check if an animation is working it’s a lot quicker.

Mike

Hey that would have been a good idea  seing how its a little over half way done and its now 10:16 and i started at 7:45.

thanks

Justin

ok its 12:25 and it just finished rendering… i guess i should have read up a little more one what to do now??? how do i make it play and i dont think i saved it but i sure hope so!!! for now i just wont close the render!!!

thanks
Justin
