Smoke render different to animation

Hi all,
I’m a novice Blender user and I’ve been experimenting with smoke in 2.77 using the blender render engine. The trouble I am having is that when I render an image it is drastically different to the final finished product and was wondering if there is any easy way to show in the render what the actual animation will look like

Pressing F12 in Blender gives the following (frame 15):

After clicking the animation button and waiting a few hours I get this
