Smoke Rendering in HiRes Animation almost impossible?

Hello everyone,

I am trying to render a space scene for planetarium, its a Planetcrash (birth of moon). I want to use smoke for making the view much more interesting.

For Planetarium it is required to render in 4096x4096 at 60 fps! But it seems, that just rendering in FullHD takes forever…gpu rendering (on a gtx970) is impossible. I am willing to do as much as possible in postwork, but the smoke is generated by fracture objects.

At the moment one Frame at FullHD in acceptable quality would take much more than an hour. This means on 4096x4096 more than 4 hours per frame. 240 hours per second. And the whole Animation would take up 2400h. This is also with a good renderfarm not possible.

Is there a good approach to render this in a decent timeframe? Are there best-use-scenarios or is it required to use a different renderer (closed source)? It is also required to do a azimuthal equidistant projection rendering. So it seems, that blender internal is not fitting with the fisheyerendering from cycles, right?

I am thankful for any tips!

Hi Tunkali,

I’m the founder of blendergrid, an online renderfarm for Blender. We can definitely render this in a few hours if needed, it all depends on your budget. It’s hard to tell how much it will cost from the info I have here, but I believe it should be possible to have it rendered for less than $1000.

What you can do to just explore your options is to upload the project file(s) at blendergrid.com, after you submit it we will run some tests and send you a price quote for your project so you know exactly how much it would cost to have it rendered. Depending on your deadline you can choose to render it faster/slower which will also affect the final price.

Let me know if you have any questions, and good luck with finding a proper solution! You can always email me at richard[at]blendergrid.com

Thank you very much for your offer. But 1000€ is exactly my budget for this whole job including working hours ;-). So I think external renderfarm is not possible.
