Smoke Simulator Particle Initial Velocity Fire

Hey everyone, I noticed something different about blender 2.66’s smoke simulator especially with the fire+smoke setting. Before in the older versions of the smoke simulator it seems like the initial velocity setting would work pretty well and carry the smoke from particles on pretty far after the particles already disappear. For this new version of the smoke simulator, the initial velocity settings for particles barely carries the smoke anywhere. Anybody seeing the same problem?
