Smooth shading question

Hey guys,

just have one question about smooth shading (vector normals - vertex normals).
I know this is maybe impossible question or stupid question,i don’t know…

Is there any way to make low poly looks like high poly, BUT without subdivision?
Maybe there is way to do that with materials or applying normal map or bump map to smooth let’s say reflections,
i don’t know how this can be called, something like smoothing with custom normals or “normals terminator”?

And yes, when i meant without adding subdivisions (and without data transfer - normals transfer), i thought only to do this with materials or geometry nodes.

Thanks anyway.

Hi,

it’s called normal maps ! You should be able to bake normals from a highdef model to a lowdef model using the builtin baking tools. If you rely on vertex normal interpolation you will not get a perfectly smooth terminator.
