Smoothen/simple-ize the faces/verticles of a sculpted model for animating?

Hey im on blender 2.7ish (before the interface update) this is my first time modeling a character and I was using the sculpt mode. On the model theres some groups small polygons between large ones. Is there a way I can make them even while keeping the shape of the model?

The 3d models I look at have such a even flow of ploygons, wich I assume it makes it more efficient for posing. Eventually I want to pose/animate this character whats a efficient way of getting it like this

while keeping the same shape/smoothening it in the process. Mainly I want to do the body and the limbs

The extra work of retopology. If you have sculpted your figures, in general your topology will not be that great for efficient animation, so most sculpt figures and then retopologize them using fewer polygons and add back detail with image maps/normal maps or vector displacement.
