Smoothing: Add/amend vertices for an existing cyclinder?

Hi guys,

It’s been a short while since I last used Blender. So I’m re-learning everything.

Straight to the point, how do I amend/add more vertices to an existing object say like a cyclinder, in order to be more smoother? I added two cyclinders with one difference. The number of vertices.

Cyclinder 1 has 34 vertices

Cyclinder 2 has 240 vertices.

When I was creating Cyclinder 1, it was set to 34 vertices and I can see the ridges. It’s not smooth enough for me.

So I created another one with vertices set to 240. The sides are more smoother.

It got me thinking. How can I have Cyclinder 1 to have 240 vertices so I don’t need to recreate another cyclinder? I have tried the Subsurf but it made the cyclinder look like a pumpkin.

I attach a screenshot for comparision’s sake

Is there a way to add more /amend number of vertices for a cyclinder?

Thanks, Richard. I did see that thread before I posted my question.

I found the thread not helpful enough as it didn’t show images how the edge loops were set set up. I have tried to reproduce it with a edge loop to no avail. I can see the autosmooth option and have set it with no effect.

I also searched it on Google but can’t find a simple tutorial. Most of it is focused on creating human/character faces. Maybe, I’m not using the right keywords.

Scratch that last post.

I found it. I was looking at the wrong ‘smooth’ button. I didn’t need an edge loop but I will look into that.

Thanks, Richard.
