Snowy Mountains (Day, Dusk, and Night)

Three snowy mountain renders I’ve recently done. Special thanks to Pixelvore for explaining his method on adding more detail to the mountain textures without increasing the poly-count

Very cool, I just fet that the I dont know how it calls in english, but the aruroras boreais those things on the night sky look fake, I mean the blending between the sky and the mountains, But other than that its very realistic and well done congratulations

So are you saying the night sky (or the aurora borealis) doesn’t blend into the mountains well enough? Do you think adding a little bit more green light to the mountains would help with that? Or is it just that the northern lights themselves look fake?

Thanks for your critique

The northern lights themselves are looking wrong. You have them look more like slightly translucent ribbons than lights dancing across the sky. I’d recommend heading over to vimeo and do a search on timelapse aurora borealis to get a better understanding of how the light behaves:D

I’ve looked at some reference images, and I’ll be re-doing the aurora borealis. Thanks for your response!

Is this any better?

Great work, the aurora is looking a little better now. Just as a little extra thing, it might be cool to have some star reflections in the lake.

I like the 2nd design.
In my opinion, the aurora boreais shoud provide more light to the mountains, only a little bit, but I’m new here, maybe you shoud better use older members opinions… I also think that star reflections would be cool… =)

I’ll try to change the lighting as soon as I can. I don’t know if I should do star reflections, because the lake isn’t reflecting the sky, it’s reflecting the mountain. But thanks for your input (both of you)!
