So far so good, my Security Watch =]

Hey blender addicts…

This is my first post and im sure i got this in the right place.
I have created a watch design for my dad, its not really a watch but more of a security device…

What are some techniques I could use to make this look more realistic?

Ihave known blender for years so I’m not a noob  but it seems the more i use blender the more i find out i don’t know about it.

Cheers

try to use textures and mapping instead of just coloured materials.
once you start using bump mapping and specular mapping (extremely easy) you can get things to look pretty realistic if you have your lighting setup right

hope i helped

well…wat i would say is put some OSA…maybe to 8 or higher…and maybe some ao?( so we can understand the shading…?

besides that it looks pretty sick, grats

Welcome to the forums also!

Hey guys,

Definately some OSA would help, also, maybe try making the band a bit smoother

bevel it a bit more, make the clock face reflective, turn up the spec, and add a bit more…creative lighting.

Hey again,

Thanks for all your guys input, i’ve done some modifacations and added more lighting and textures…

what do you guys think?

Opps, sorry, i didn’t realize the render was such a high res XD

it looks alot better now

Try rendering with some AO, also give the metal materials some raymirror

Nice watch  I would also add a texture to the wrist strap and have normal value maybe something between 0.5 to 1 and maybe increase the emit value of the red and green of the watch face to make them stand out more.

New update, added textures, ray-Mirrors and other stuff

looks alot better… but it looks like it’s floating and is the groung meant to be that reflective?

Use AO (if you haven’t already) also the materials look a bit flat, perhaps look up some materials on the Blender Material Deposit (I think that’s what it’s called)

Everyone keeps suggesting i should use AO… whats AO? :o:spin::confused:

Ambient Occlusion. In a nut shell it’s ‘fake’ (best word for it) shadows. Find it in Shading->World->Amb Occ, then enable it, Ray trace is slower but more accurate, Approximate is faster but less accurate. Turn up samples if Ray tracing for better quality.

Also for nice glow effects you should look into blenders compositor.
