i instaled softbody version of blender and then i start it and i donk know how to use it becouse i dont see the difference from the normal blender . how can i use softbody effects
Not about Python or plugins, moved to Blender General.
You’ll be able to download a softbody video tutorial here: http://www.ibiblio.org/bvidtute/
(It’s the bottom one)
thanks
Where can I download that softbody, thing, something I need to be able to sue it, a script or some?
No it’s in blender CVS
…right…blender CVS…and, what is it and where can I get it?
–
I found this but does that has anything to do with what I am looking for? And if it does, how do I use it?
Hi,
I will try to summarize…I am also right at the beginning
of using softbodie and not everything concerning softbodies
is currently implemented in a way which seems to be logical
or what one exspect.
Softbodies is a part of the blender binaries. Just like “Matierials” or “the 3DView”. It is neither a plugin nor a
special transcendant state of the mind …
It is not released. It is part of the C-Sourcecode which you
can get via CVS.
You have to download the source, compile it, install the binaries and VOILA! You will have a real brandnew blender
with softbodies.
here :
http://wiki.blender.org/bin/view.pl/Blenderdev/Softbodies
you will find a short draft tutorial how to use softbodies.
Softbodies are goog for more or less realistic simulation of soft materials (hence the name ;O) like pudding, T-Shirts in the wind and what you can imagine.
It is (currently) not useable for simulations of liquids and
it is also not aware of self-intersecting, which is really
unnaturla in my opinion a missing feature (or a bug)…
I hope this help a little – otherwise ask! :O)
Keep blendering!

Thanks very much for the explanation, I downloaded the source from www.blender3d.org and I guess that’s the right one. (It’s called blender-2.36.tar.gs.) But where can I get these so called binaries??? Is it bf-blender-2005-05-18.tgz because I found that somewhere.
No, sorry for the bad new…
That is a RELEASE source. You need to download the CVS
sourcetree. I dont now, whether there is a snapshot of
that sources, but you can get it by first installing cvs
(type “cvs” and then “return” just to test wehther it is
already installed!) and then read the instructions here
http://projects.blender.org/cvsx/?group_id=9
how to access CVS.
But be warned !
This are the lively developed sources. There may be
situations from tim eto time, where these source are
unstable, not compilable or in other ways “faulty” –
hence there are NOT the release sources.
Then you have to compile and install blender according
to the instructions.
Hope it helps!

First of all I am really happy that you are trying to help me and I would love to understand everything you say but most is just abacadabra to me. Let’s make something clear, perhaps you have a wrong idea about me.
I am Dutch (perhaps that’s teh problem :P) and my English is good for a Dutchman but not good enough to understand everything crystal clear. I am using Blender for about 1 year now and I am really happy I found it. It is my first entree to the 3d world and I already decided to continue with it. (I’m almost done with my exams, then I am going to Amsterdam to become a Multimedia designer.)
When a new version of Blender was releaced, I was thrilled and inmedialety downloaded it from Blender3d.org. I just removed the old version, installed the new version and life was good.
I understand now that the “SoftBody” function everybody is so thrilled about, isn’t in this releace of Blender and will problebly be put in the new version. I also understand that I can get the version of Blender (correct me if I’m wrong) that is created so far, but that one isn’t finished and some bugs are still in it. Some people here downloaded this version but you need to download something else first. The sourcecode or so. What I downloaded was wrong. Ok. But where can I get this sourcecode that I need, and I believe that I need to download the latest version of Blender (still not releaced) that includes softbody. I must plug this into the sourcecode in some way and then it should work.
Problebly everything I told was incorrect so please tell me if I understand it wrong. But this is what I think is how it works and what I must do.
If I am RIGHT about all this, then where can I get this sourcecode (if it isn’t just this from blender3d.org) and the Binarie (I don’t know what this work means (www.freetranslation.com doesn’t know it) but I think it is the latest version of Blender that isn’t finished and ofcause also not releaced) ?
Sorry for the way too long story. I just felt like telling it.
Sander
–edit–
Perhaps you shoudl know I am using Blender 2.36 right now (and enjoying it :D) and I have Windows XP Pro Eng. My pc is a AMD (with way too little mega herzes…:P).
You can get the latest cvs test build here.
There is usually a compiled windows build, as well as builds for OSX and Linux. They do not have to be compiled. At the bottom of the very first post you will see a place to download the executable only (the Blender program). If you need the other auxilliary files, they can be found there as well. There are also several mirror sites in case you have trouble downloading.
Just extract this executable to a temp directory, rename it (BlenderNew.exe as an example) and move it into your normal Blender directory.
Hope this helps.
YEAH!!! :D:D:D
Thank you! It finally worked! Even without the need of “the source” or anything. Just downloaded it from this page and did what DYeater said. SIMPLE!
Now start using Soft Body.
Btw, sorry for the trouble all.
I made an animation test with the Soft Body’s. It supposed to be a tiny bit like water. The animation is 10 secs and about 750 kb.
I chose Divx (I have 5.01 I believe) and just pressed “animation” in the render buttons. But now it is rendered it looks like it shocks a lot.
Anybody know where this shocking come from? Is it a problem with the “Baking” I did after I made the soft body? I thought that was nessecary to be able to render it.
–EDIT–
Sorry guys, I was stupid, never saw the interval parameter. Now I understand I need to set it to 1 to make it nice.
Sorry
In my opinion, I would not use a value under two. This creates a keyframe at every other frame. If you set it to 1, then it sets a keyframe to every frame. This will take up alot of memory and slow things down alot. I have an animation with 21 softbody objects, all baked (interval 2), for 600 frames. My blend file is now 20 MB. It is kind of slow moving around in my scene. I have taken the soft bodies and moved them to a different layer … they won’t (or can’t, without freeing the bake) be changed. Turn off that layer and everything is fine. Make sure you turn it on before you render though.
I’m glad you are now able to experiment with softbodies. I’m having a blast, although I don’t really like the fact that it takes a second or two of animation time for the softbodies to “steady up”.
Be sure to do a search for “tutorials” AND “softbodies”. There are several that show how to set up your soft body. Not alot about a project, but just the technique to get you started.
Here are a few shots from some of my soft body animation experiments:
Like Roger - I’m not a CVS adept but would love an OSX build with the softbodies features. Anyone got one to download ?
Your wish is my command:
http://www.blender.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=6207
This is a release from Ton for OSX 10.3
Hope this helps.
thanks - and if you had an example blend or simple intro into how to make soft body work I’d be even more grateful …
Cheers
This tutorial thread will help. There are several tutorials available.
