Solid Angle is ending perpetual licensing for Arnold (subscription for $65 a month)

AD is retargeting Arnold customer base to medium / big studios on purpose, because of margins of the current model. Those studios will negotiate volume subscriptions anyway and AD can make profit as well on post sale support. The price increase over the maintenace model (about 300%) and the end of perpetual licenses next year points that way. Individuals and small shops will slowly migrate.

Thats a logical thought but not advisable. Forcing all into one system will make revenue flow more predictable and stable. Plus you eliminate choice of a cheaper model.

What some AD critics here forget is also how investors push or force companies to do certain financial decision while AD employees might disagree. Probably one additional reason why the last AD CEO quite and he is a great guy.

sad but true.

Off topic - Catalonia is awesome ! I enjoyed it more than the Madrid area.

Well… he is the one that created this whole idea of rental only licensing shceme, and he is the one that two years ago or so said that he sees that in the neaer future Autodesk software won’t be installed at all and you will be running it from a explorer in remote so… I can’t see him as a great guy.

Yes investors force a company to do silly things, but the board should know what their business is all about and a big mistake they did is to include big architectural and industrial companies in the same bag as small and medium 3d animation studios, one model is not good for everyone, it’s impossible… but hey… one to rule them all hahaha

Cheers.
