Hello!
I am wondering if it is possible to have Solidify modifier “Rim only” faces only where hard edge is marked?
Thank you in advance.
can u elaborate it
I would try extruding with geometry nodes, then delete sharp faces
Ah damn! I was hoping to avoid fiddling with gn ![]()
Thank you, nevertheless.
You can only do so much with premade modifiers. Somebody else might need to delete faces bordering edges with UV seams, or some other exotic thing. You can’t fit infinite possibilities in a preprogrammed thing. The only solution that I know of here is to program the behaviour you need.
Maybe someone will have a different idea for you, who knows.
This is awesome! Thank you very much!
You are welcome.
I was already thinking a bit about these because originally i used vertex groups wheni realized that sharp edges is some “native” attribute. The task to solve here is that blender do add whatever attributes/vertexgroups are set to any vertex it hands down those “values” to the new generated vertices “neigbouring” the old ones.. so when marking all others differently or capture the “old ones” then they are also handed down..
maybe some “comparing” can help.. have to think alittle more about this.
Hi,
subtract the “top” edges from the “sharp_edge” attribute with a boolean math node and store it again with a store named attribute node. Although this might keep the “lengthwise” edges in there, not sure, try it
I appreciate this! I had similar solution. However would it be possible to avoid Merge by Distance? Because before extruding I am using Edge Split modifier (splitting only edges marked as sharp). And if I mark sharp edge in the middle of a plane, the gn modifier would merge the edges back resulting in double sided faces.
Ohh i added this to get a “connected mesh”.. if you do not want it then just select it and press Ctrl-X to delete it but keep the connections.
