Solidify problem?

Hello guys, can anyone tell me why solidify not work as should be?
What is the problem here?

Few problems here:

1. Non-manifold geometry - get rid of that lip, extrude it after applying Solidify. It should have different thickness anyway, judging from the image.
2. Geometry too close together - get rid of that thin crease that goes around the respirator on the outside, create it later. Model big shapes first (i.e. solidify), then add smaller details.
3. Concave angles. Solidify to the outside, not inside, otherwise you’ll get intersecting geometry.
