Hey I am designing a car in solidworks its for an competition and i must use solidworks.
And solidworks rendering is just crap so i use blender and yafray.
But i’m not very good in it (at least i’m not pro)
i now having diffuculty with the windows i don’t like them now and yafray has problem with the lighting.
Could use some feedback for that here are some pictures.
the black lines at the back are caused by an mesh thats is normally under it i will work in this in solidworks. Al the materials are ripped from the internet (I want to focus more on the design then making materials.)
Things to work on:
The glass
Bumps on the hood (i think that is caused by bad model export i use wrml) (need some help with that)
here is another render. (i fixed the air thing already )
Curvy car modeling in Solidworks … OUCH.
AFAIR, I used STL for Solidworks -> Blender. Had to Rem doubles. In some cases the geometry is very unfortunate for smoothing and subdivision used to create a complete mess. In short, this route is riddled with problems
But perhaps Alltaken knows a better way. You might want to PM him.
haha i know solidworks is far the best way to model a car…but i get along
STL can’t handle de meshes it makes a complete mess from it.
WRML does a better job but not super (it is still better then solidworks render )
Have you seen this tutorial.

How do u get the relections of the car like it. Those r some nice renders
i followed that tutorial http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/Tutorials/Import_and_Render_a_SolidWorks_Model
and just played with it until i got i right for my car.(I’m dutch btw if you haven’t noticed :))
also the rims where a bigger suc6 also imported from solidworks:
Is there btw a HDR probe with a studio model??
also made a movie http://video.google.nl/videoplay?docid=-6078416572557216239&hl=nl (took about a day to render and i used the wrong paint:mad:
This is render of my old model i don’t use the paint because it get tiled
Is this car made for 1 person? It doesn’t look wide enough for 2 people. I would also maybe make the tip of the hood more pointy and aerodynamic (also more sporty looking). Right now the front end looks like a VW beetle from the 70’s. I like the design overall though. Hope that helps some.
Here is a 3d model straight from solidworks.

you need to download an addon from solidworks
de competition is dutch and solidworks is one of the founders of the competition!
