I bgan my learning of python almost 2 years ago, and i can tell you, this language is really easy and powerfull. If you wanna learn it, I advise you few books:
If you never have program anything : “How to think like a cmputer scientist : learning python”
If you already know the bases of programming : "Official Tutorial Python R2.5"and "Dive into python’
Be sure to control concepts of classes and functions (and obviously Blender :o) before dive into blender API
Scripting in any 3D app opens up huge possibilities, so if you’re at all inclined to take the time to learn it, it’ll be worthwhile. Some of the basic principles are a little hard to grasp at first, but once they’re conquered, you’ll have a good basis for learning the scripting language for just about any application, since there are many common features among them.
