(SOLVED) Render particles puzzle

I created a little test scene with particle trees on land. When rendered, they magically rearrange themselves, as if using a different seed. The Blend file is too big to attach. I’m hoping someone can diagnose without that for now. Top image is render. Lower is screenshot of 3D view in Blender.

Thanks for any clues.

Probably it’s a caching issue. Make sure you baked all dynamics in your simulation, even if just a single frame.

Thanks for replying, but I am confused. I am not making an animation, I am using Evee and I find no caching or baking panels anywhere. Can you tell me where to look? The Blender manual often shows a panel without telling us where to find it.

Even worse: I made instances real and deleted the particle system. The result was that only a few of the trees rendered - many just disappeared, even though they are all there in the 3D scene.

Using the particle system, it’s considered a simulation even if it’s just a single frame. Try scattering with geometry nodes, I believe that is the best solution for trees. You can find tons of tutorials on YouTube.

Thanks, New Visitor. Finally found it, but that Cache tab is only visible when using hair if Hair Dynamics is checked (which I usually leave unchecked).

Further, I found the problem was in the Outliner - some of my trees were set at “Disable in Render” (I don’t know why), so they were being left out resulting in render not matching 3D.

Will do some day, but using what I know for now - never ran into this problem before (see solution above).
