I am rigging my dog all over again, using the VFX Grace course (which I am struggling with).
I have successfully parented the bones to the body of the dog and the eyes of the dog using this procedure, but when trying to do the same with the palette object of the dog, the bones don’t parent. I get this message at the bottom of the window;, “Rigging Bone Heat weighting: Failed to find solution for one or more bones”
I have tried it numerous times but always get this error message. Can anyone spot something that might be causing this to happen?
I am not using rigify or autorig. All manual rigging.
I have checked my mesh for overlapping geometry or holes in the mesh. Everything is correct. Nothing is scaled. Normals are all facing outward. I am stumped!
Thanks for any advice. Maybe I am getting to old to work with Blender. I hope not but I seem to be hitting walls all the time.
When I run into this issue and nothing else fixes it, sometimes scaling both the rig and the model up by 10 or so helps, and then they can be descaled after. I don’t know if that’s the best method, but I haven’t noticed any issues scaling and descaling, so long as the rig and the model are scaled together.
If nothing’s working for you, sharing a link to the file will probably help people figure out what might be wrong.
That worked. Had I gone further in the VFX Grace tutorial I would have seen that he described the error. He should have prefaced that part by telling the student in advance that the error message would appear. I immediately saw the error message and stopped the tutorial. It took me over an hour of googling and trying to repeat the parenting with automatic weights procedure.
After posting the problem here I decided to continue with the tutorial anyway and then saw that he too had the error and showed the steps to correct. The procedure was in line with your reply.
thank you so much for your help and your taking the time to post the reply. I am very grateful.
