[solved] Stuck in the wikibook tutorial

Hi everyone!

I’m following the tutorial “N**b to Pro” available from wikibook. [1]
At some point [2], there is a box surrounding the model

This box seems to be very important and I can’t figure how to get it. All I can say is that it seems to be related with settings in the subsurf (aka subdivision) modifier.
Could you point me a tutorial or give me a procedure to do that in 2.49 or preferably in 2.5x ?

once you apply the subsurface modifier to the original model (the boxed one) and tab into edit mode you should see a similar view to the one you posted. The “boxes” are the original low poly model, the smoother one is the subsurf preview. If you dont see it, make sure in the modifier settings that the modifier is enabled in edit mode.

I tried again following your instructions and it worked. :cool:
I also found another thing that prevented me to see the surrounding wireframe. Actually it’s important not to press “Apply” button, otherwise the modifier is applied to the original mesh which then disappears.
