[solved] Weird Reflections (Glossy & Anisotropic)

This is just a test render of a window. As you can see there are weird shadows surrounding the object. It is not coming from the glass shader (which has perfect shadows inside of the window) but it is instead coming from the glossy shader. The same thing happens when the metal is set to anisotropy. The scene is lite by a sunlamp and an environment texture of a sky. The normals all seem to be facing in the right direction (as far as I can tell) and the shading is completely smooth when I look at the object in solid mode.

The distortion is cast as a reflection, from both the environment map and the sun lamp separately.

Since I have node idea what is causing this, I figure I would just ask here. Does anyone know what is causing this and how I can fix it?

Note: those same distortion lines show up in both Octane and Cycles.

Recalculate normals.

Normals are good.

That ofc would have been the obvious answer. But I have flipped them several times and even closed and reopened the blend file.

Then post a blend file.

Could be a duplicate mesh also.

File: and thx for your help.

Is the object sitting on a plane (that’s receiving the shadows)?

If so, is there any space between the plane and the object?

Your floor plane is intersecting with the window frame. Move the floor down just a tad and that should fix it. I would also suggest adding a bit of thickness to the window frame.

Yep, that’s it. Stupid me forgot all about the 2d plane sitting at the bottom of the window, of which I had extruded it from. Thank you fellas. That solved it.
