1.What program is used for 3D movies like Shrek 3,Finding Nemo etc.

  • Pixar uses homebrew applications and probably main stream apps such as 3d studio and Maya

2.Where did u learn to make good models?

  • By tinkering with blender in my free time and trying tutorials to see how things are achieved in different methods

3.Are there any FREE ‘making of…’ video’s from films(Like Shrek etc.) to download?(It’s interesting for me)

  • There is a documentary on the Orange Movie project that you can download online for free and if im not mistaken i saw a couple of MAKING OF movies on HBO before on animated movies, not sure where you can find those thou.

4.More questions may come

  • Sure thing :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe someone know more 3D making of movies?

I learned to make models by first using the wikibook and then just messing with Blender untill my stuff started to look better.

I’ll take a look at the bonus features of some DVD’s

As far as the movies, Houdini is widely used throughout the industry as well as Maya and 3DStudio Max. Dreamworks (Shrek Series) and Disney both create their movies using their own custom software as well as commercial software (and they are REALLY hush hush about it, trade secrets I guess). Both also have contractual agreements with HP and use Linux as well. I looked at the jobs with Disney earlier after they merged with Pixar (just out of curiosity) and they had a numerous amount of jobs for Experienced Linux programmers. The best documentary I have seen on a 3D animated movie is on the Monster House and The Ant Bully DVD’s both of which heavily used Houdini. sidefx.com (Houdini) also has a big list of movie and animated films which their software was used.

Me, I’m still trying to learn Blender. I come and go, get sidetracked stuff like that.
