Hi, I’m going to try and freelance sell models!
A few months ago I was inspired by andrew price to try and
get some archvis examples together, which I still have interest, and set to model some things I would definitely need. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot modelling, texturing and rendering. Then a mild depression set in as I saw a few others with models for sale on slavery wages, and I started calculating some other avenue. I just realized I have all these models and I can hoard them or hopefully it’s worthwhile.
Some I would omit like the skillet with radial, like the glass tables. Some of the models were meant to quickly bolster my archvis renders, but I’m not the best stylist so it is difficult for me to throw furniture together stylishly without a garish struggle, and I like the modelling aspect more. Andrew said you cant model it all yourself and that’s really true in compositing quickly a usable “in style” archvis image with trying different things out to see how it looks.
I believe all of them are low poly with subsurf crease edge with sometimes edge modifiers. Correctly scaled to approximation. If they are textured I have used cgtexture which I think I’ll have to change with I guess some that I photograph? I just opened a turbosquid account if anyone has any pointers? Thanks!
Yes, thanks! Rendered in cycles.
A few of them I may have experimented with edge loops to keep the subsurf shape,
and I used a checkerboard for the first time on my favorites to get nice scaled UV’s.
(which I was thinking might help with not being able to distribute cgtexture.)
Here are some of the better quick tests with low samples, I have other testing renders which are pretty awful.
Plus here’s a blender couch I liked how it turned out.
Well I guess I’ll maybe re-render out turbosquid previews with higher samples,
or maybe better upload first to know the proper preview image size.
I cleaned up this chair a bit, added a imperceptible logo to the chair lever, and decided to do a checkerboard uv layout preview for all the models so people can maybe feel they can easily switch textures.
I just finished the uv’s on this tonight.
EDIT I just now realize it bumps to the top of focused critique when I edit a post, sorry about that!
From doing UV’s I had render withdrawal, and after a bit of trying to create something serious I wound up with this which I call “The chair hoarder” or maybe “chair room” or “chair graveyard” I’m trying to figure out how to cram a few more chairs in while still bring archvis-ishly orderly, like if the multi-millionaire started to accumulate all these unstylish chairs, but still tried to maintain the look which is what really happens with even the slightest inclination of hoarding. I really want to do archvis.
And today I had an additional idea and sketched this out, mega mansion with perfectly good furniture thrown in the trash to make room for new, but I don’t think it would be a good archvis portfolio as it’s pretty seditious or pre french revolution-ish propoganda type thing. But it is kind of funny.
