Hello peoples, I’m back with some crap. As usual, I broke down a bit and dropped the ball…but that ball just flew back of it’s own accord and smashed my nuts in. Here’s a test render of the new method I devised. It’s just about as close to the way I really draw as possible in Blender. Tell me why it sucks. This thing has gotta be pilot ready before I turn 30 or my life is officially pointless.
It’s rendered in HD and good sweet satan does it take forever. But it just might be worth it…If anyone gives two damns how I did this I’d be happy to share.
Cool style ,the hand drawn look is awesome! Their facial expressions are…well when I think of a synonym for awesome I’ll edit this . They look strangely real…especially the red haired dude! It doesn’t suck , it’s just different in a way, I think that it’s pilot ready already May be some network will be interested…
and here’s some close ups
and there’s a long shot with a background. the trick with the “important things” eating away at the background lines is costly but worth it. makes it look like it was all penned in one go instead of some cells over an image. i guess. oh and thanks for the good word up there, TheCroc.
I think it’s great, would be nice to see it in motion. I think your biggest problem is line weight looking sort of shaky, and isssues with LOD consistency. Some of the features of the characters are smaller than the nominal width of an ‘ink’ line, which to my eye looks strange. Ex: red high heels, part of tie, that guy’s yellow teeth… I think it might help if you actually reduced LOD in some way, on some portions.
Oh yeah, you’re totally right about somethings being smaller than the outline, that’s mostly a model problem, fixed that already (I hope. 5 problems emerge for every 1 that gets fixed). Here’s a very small piece of the intro so far, it’s got nothing to do with the pics I showed but it’s how it moves
Your stuff are awesome as usual. Really dig your animation style.
Edit: Thought this was in the finished project section. Now I have to give some constructive crit.
Maybe the hair shouldn’t have a specularity , to keep the same art direction all the way.
But that’s just me. Your character look great when animated. Stills doesn’t do them justice.
oh that, yeah that material fails pretty bad. i fucking hate working with lights…the other option i’ve tried is giving some black objects an extra layer of grayish lines over shadeless black, it stays consistent enough but doesn’t have what i call the “drinky crow” effect. That is to say, something that looks 2d enough in a still, but once it moves it’s totally obvious it’s not 2d. Well obvious to people like us anyway. The whole goal is to completely recreate what I draw by hand, and use 3d shit very, very sparingly. No “oh wow, it’s 3d! the camera is swooping all over the place!” type shit or Futurama spaceship type stuff that just doesn’t jibe with the rest of the animation…if that makes any sense. Everything is on ones, everything is 29.97 whatever frames per second, everything looks like my nightmares, and unlike any other cartoon on the planet. Or at least Florida. I’ve been up doing this for 36 hours so this post may or may not be on point
Oh the 30 thing is one of those arbitrary deadlines I set for things. Hooray for OCD! I’ll work like mad designing the perfect cartoon butt cheeks but simple things like eating breakfast or washing pretty much anything kinda come and go. I’m like the near death Howard Hughes, minus the money. Rambling again. As for walk cycles, oh I got em up the wazoo, I really should post something longer, good idea
there’s what’s happening so far. the creep out from the ink well looks terrible, but fuck it i gotta get some sleep, it’ll be fixed. apologies for the rambling, this lack of sleep thing has got me on planet zoot
