Another hello to the residents of BlenderArtist!
This time I decided to do something with imagining a little story, like it’s the workplace of someone who probably works with fabrics.
This person is definitely lives in Japan, so there’s a keyboard with a Japanese layout and my favorite Japanese film camera, the Pentax K1000.
btw, I did it in Blender 4.3 Beta, the new UV unwrapping algorithm called Minimum Stretch is really helped me.
To my great surprise, it was the only thing that produced the most beautiful unwrapping result of crumpled fabric
Well, basically I find my inspiration first.
I might see some picture and be inspired to do something similar in 3D, for example for this work I was inspired by the preview of this video, even though I didn’t even watch the video
I put models of a keyboard, glasses, camera and scissors into the scene and found a wood and fabric texture.
But that was the least of the work. In the end, 95% of the time was spent arranging the objects, setting up the lighting and camera, and weathering/dusting the objects so they didn’t look like they just came out of the box.
Some time was also spent on compositing.
I added the dust with this addon:
And I also found the Realistic Touch addon super helpful. Well, I wouldn’t say it’s an addon, more like a set of textures.
You have to connect the surface imperfection textures to the Roughness node.
I used to spend a lot of time doing compositing for my previous works to make it look like a shot taken with a real film camera.
But I happened to find this free pack of compositor nodes that simplifies the compositing process for my task.
