i went looking for an earth model on blendswap… clicked on the one there and read throught the appropriate CC licensing…which says…
“To the extent possible under law, koblan has waived all

you’d wanna hope so, it was made before he was born.

It would take a miracle to get a patent or trademark for “The Earth”
TBH, I don’t actually think that it would take a miracle…
Most patents are only ever refused if
A: A design similar enough to be considered close enough to require little or no modification with a similar internal/external system to produce those results.
B: If the object/invention has been refused patent previously.
C: If verifiable and overwhelming evidence suggests that you/your company/organization has no right to patent the object/invention due to another person having built/created the object/invention previously.
As the earth (I don’t think atleast) doesn’t fit under any of these catagories…well, They would have to find something to prove it as unworthy. Although the patent offices are horrible people with no lives, so I no doubt it would be over fairly quickly.
Also, the copyright that would ahve covered it would only apply to the model itself. If he spawned and subdivided that UV sphere, it is his own invention. So he can do whatever he wants with it.

i bet some mega company has actually got the patents for The Earth (or Document X, as it shall now be known) and has it in a safe next to the napkin with the recipe for the 11 herbs and spiced and the secret ingredient in coke. THey are probably saving it for a rainy-world-dominance-day,
I bet they keap the safe inside the set of the moonlanding.
