Something is wrong with selecting

So when I try to select anything in Blender it appares an enlareged, lengthened “copies” of the workspace’s objects too and when I zoom it disappares but I am not able to select anything indeed.

I have run it in terminal to know further and I have got an error massage:

WARN_ONCE
File r300_render.c function r300Fallback line 374
Software fallback:ctx->RenderMode != GL_RENDER
***************************************************************************”

Does anybody know what it could be?

(I use Bleneder 2.49a in LinuxMint 7 however I have faced this problem since LM6 and B 2.48a sometimes )
(And of course I have tried to reinstall the OS and the Blender)

Is an issue with the open source ati driver. I think you can ask for help in the phoronix forums, as some developers of the driver are there.

It’sefinitly the ATI driver…another wierd issue is sometimes the color depth…I know it sounds wierd, but make sure it is higher than 16 bit color.
BTW:
I Love ATI, but seriously if you need to count on a card for blender…I would count on Nvidia…ATI always(ALWAYS)seems to have new issues and workarounds…then new issues and new workarounds. I would still be an ATI user if it were not for Blender.
