Okay, I know I’ve said this before, but I need sound effects for my new TANK game. Please don’t point me to a website.
This game is going to be huge. I have a cinematic sequence with exact dialouge that needs to be spoken (I’ll take care of that) and other specific sound effects.
If anyone is up to the challenge of actually creating and/or recording sound effects, heres a list of what I need:
-magnetic hovering sound
-a sort of THUNK, with some boom in it
-several types of explosions (I think i’ll have to find those)
-a submarine surfacing
-ocean(waves)
-large boat screeching with the ocean floor
-alarm (bell type)
-hydraulic steam sound
This is definetely a group effort. It would be great if a lot of people did one sound each. If you have any tips or if you recorded/found a good sound, post it here or PM me. Thanks!
I have a few sound clips saved on my PC (from Half-Life) and I’ll gladly upload them and post a link to a few, because I know some that seem to fit your preferences. Just let me know whether they need to be looping sounds or not, and I’ll post some links ASAP.
Also, if you can’t find the ones you want, you could always make your own sound effects like Weirdhat does for his animations (which BTW kick ass :D).
P.S. Pooba, have you tried http://www.findsounds.com? From my previous experiences, it seems to be alright.
Not that hard to make sound, just need to listen closely to whats around you, use your imagination and do some pitch and echo editing and you have sound, you could just bring a recorder and record sounds that’s around you, unless the sound they produce is also copyrighted %|
-alarm (bell type) – needs to repeat itself, not necessarily looping
The rest don’t really.
Of course there are a lot more sounds that I need, but I’kk get to those later.
Now, I dont know if I can use Hallf-Life sounds, for legal reasons.
It seems that the best way to get interesting and original sound is to record some…
Anyone have good ideas for what kind of equipment?
Budget: $0 - $10
Either that, or I could just use my video camera and grab the sounds. I think that will work, because then I can edit them as well…
One more thing: does anyone know of any good sound editing software? I just need something that can add a quick reverb or echo or make it go backwards, etc… thanks.
Yeah, you’re probably right. Bummer. They’re the only reasonably good sound effects I have on my PC, unless you want a sound clip of a bunch of fart sounds…
If you’re using Windows, you can go into the “Run…” thing and type sndrec32. It’s a really simple sound recording program that comes with all versions of Windows, but it will pretty much do what you need.
Depends what for… do you want to just create little loops and stuff you can trigger in blender, or do you want to create a full soundtrack for an animated video???
Also nice for samples, but music samples, not too many xplosions there… www.samplefusion.com that’s from the people behind fruityloops software… a nice little proggy for people who want to get into music creation but don’t play an instrument hehe
Thre’s lots out there. if you’re specific I can prolly point you in the right direction (I work in this field).
Remarcably for recording fx on location and all around apparently the most affordable option that yields good results is… a minidisk recorder and nice microphone… it’s not pristine quality, but acceptable and o so very practical.
pity about not being able to use game sound effects. GTA3 has some really good sounds. Especially it has a nice ocean waves sound that loops. You might want to look into those, else i just use sites.
Hey, wow. I’m getting more feedback than I expected!
I will definetely try those two sites, macouno, thank you. And fruityloops is great even if you can play an instrument! You can hook up a midi keyboard I think… though most of the stuff I make is physically impossible for anyone to play .
And I’m 13, and no, the rating system is not bad, its just the kids like me who went bad. (And those video mart people who dont check your age)
one more thing: I did try out that sound recorder that comes with windows, and I found out that my comp has a built in mic! Thats awesome. Now, if only I could do a Cuban accent…
