Soundwave Gen 1 - Transformers fanart [lowpoly]

My take on a generation 1 version of Soundwave from Transformers.
Heavily inspire on IDW comics and old walkmans and HIFI players.
Was done for video game engines with 30k triangles and 4 Udims for texturing.
Texturing done in Substance 3D Painter. Rendered in Eevee.

Great I love the level detail on the corners and edges of soundwave. I love it when people take cartoons and make a realistic version of them. It reminds me of the video game Transformers fall of cycbertron, unfortunately I never go to play the game. :pensive:

Thank you! This was a great way to embrace nostalgia. I am glad you liked it.

Really brings out the kidult in me!

Not sure if you’re old like me to remember the joke, “polygons are for robots!”, but that was way back before multi level, subDs, sculpting was available to the common hobbyist.

Well, I did model a Gen 1 transformer. So yeah… I am not in my 20s… :joy:

Gen 1 is where it is, even if they were self-admitted 30 minute long commercials to sell us toys.

But the level of engineering to get the toys to work is amazing, even by today’s standards.

Now, the last I checked, Soundwave from Legacy (?) transforms into some “shape”… no idea what or how that’s considered a robot in disguise…

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!

I can hear this image  Awesome work and great style choice. This is how I remember the series from my childhood.

Thank you! I am fond to the gen 1 style. I also loved when IDW started doing the comics back in the day. I am thinking on doing a Grimlock in this style. But also want to prepare the high poly version for 3D printing

Fantastic take!
It looks just like the promo 83 toys selling now. (Which is to say: this is a great model).
