space ship (my first modeling attempt)

It seems that everyone is suddenly making space ships, and my friend wanted me to make one for him anyways, so I’m trying one. All I’ve done so far is use plain lines and spin them to make shapes, and for the main body I also modified it a little to get the tail. I’m extremely knew to the modeling department, all I’ve done so far is a tower of terror and that’s just blocks textured to look great :smiley: so could people please tell me where to start and stuff to get all those little details?

thanks thats a great website :slight_smile: but I was asking how to get the little details in blender, not where to get ideas for them :frowning: I already have a ship, I need to make it look good now.

Sorry, for some reason your images arent showing up for me the fist time I view your post, I thought you hadnt even started on your ship.

These will help visuallize the details you might want to have on your own ship.
To add details, you simple add shapes to the mesh, if you are in edit mode, hit “a” a few times to deselect verything, the “space bar” and add a new mesh to your object,
you can add what ever shape you want and then form it to your harts content, and it will be part of your ship mesh object, or you can add seperate objects and parent them to the ship.
I think the details you want are what people call ship “greeblies” or something, ive never heard of it.

you may want to add the edge split modifier to your ship, it willl make it look 10000000x better.

Recalculate your normals for the outside. There are some artifacts on your ship however they don’t seem to showing on the render but its a good thing to do anyway.

one of them is barely noticeable and the other can’t be seen, but little exhaust tubes have been added to the rear.
I have the window, (can’t figure out how to do it :frowning: ) I painted it red, and added another planet so it’s more picturesque. If your going to modify the file and post it, please add your name before or after “space ship” in the name so I know who did it and so it’s not saving over previous ones. Thanks!

Idk what that would do… I tried downloading it to make sure it works and the second time it did. Here’s another pic, with lasers added and a bigger pic.

i think you should focus on making the ship look better than adding extras right now.

and dont take this the wrong way but remove the planets :slight_smile:

I agree I was just added those when I was bored. But what’s wrong with my planets? They’re nice and picturesque.

well, it the planet texture, and they look like circles, maybe think about the enviroment after you have finished the ship?

agreed for the planets try a photo text, or look some up on google (like I do) also make it a more definitive Sphere, not a circle.
