Space Station 5

During my sporadic breaks from revision over the last week, I completed the shuttle bay I posted in the WIP and integrated it into the space station. The original grey theme of the station then looked unbelieveably boring, so I retextured, gave it a background, and added windows. Here’s the final results :

Front view :

Huge render. Earth could do with bigger textures I suppose but that’s all my system can handle (5k)…couldn’t find any clouds bigger than 2k.

Back view :

Another huge render.

Quicktime panorama thingy, ~600kb.

Comments and crits welcome. I may make minor changes when I prepare to animate it so suggestions will be taken into account.

:o

And it’s rendered with…?

What the… :o :o :o

:o

Just amazing…

The share detail in the hull of the station is… wow…

:o

Can’t say is there anything which would jump into my eyes as disturping or non fitting part. Must look these scenes little deeper.

Very nice, I especially like the lighting in the back view. Perhaps you should add some ships flying around or something? Other than that, no crits. Good job.

the lighting and the earth needs some work. the earth looks… odd.
the lighting seems a bit too bright to me.

Very nice. 2001 Space Oddesy? Very nice.

I think you shold add some detail to the areas “under consturction”, like some planes that make the outer hull extend out over the superstructure beams, to give it a more unfinished look.

Overall I’d say “AWESOME”. Are you going to add the shuttle from 2001 as well?

http://www.img7.photobucket.com/albums/v17/mystery/eek_smiley.gif this is amazing, really good details, and lighting…did u do a drawing first???
must of taken u an entire 24 hours to make.

my friend says: this is amazing, i wish i could do that.

Wow, thanks for all the replies !

Erufailon : It’s rendered with one of the current CVS versions, just 2 lamps on the main station…mmmm, raytracing… The panels on the main ring had to be rendered in 2.26 though, because there seems to be a bug with subsurfed objects in the CVS. Oh and the shuttle bay uses radiosity and a few very soft shadow lamps.

Arathorn, Hippie :

thegameboy : Yes, spaceships will be done, in a few weeks time I hope. Going to recreate the entire “Cosmic Waltz” from 2001 (minus scenes with people in).

milkman : I agree the lighting is too bright on the first picture, I shall darken it. What specifically looks odd about the Earth ? I’ll try and correct it if you tell me.

forcefield : Yes, I think I shall add some more stuff to the girders. It’s dangerously close to overloading my RAM though… 333,000 vertices (400,000 with subsurfing!)

mystery00 : drawing ? Hell no ! I did, however, find this most excellent site : http://www.starshipmodeler.com/2001/2001int.htm
Took ~16 hours to model (very liberal use of shift+D speeds things up lots) and texture, then I retextured it, didn’t take long at all, lighting is simple - nice sharp raytraced shadows from 2 suns.

I was thinking of posting this on CGtalk… should I bother ?

Images have been updated with less saturated lighting and minor details added to the girders.

the shadow of image 1 is well done for space.

BIG question:
what is the prog used to do the panoramic view and how did you rander a 180 x 360 degree shot with panorama?
i’ deseparatingly try to do this sort of render for almost a month now.

Gabio : all instructions found here, it’s really really easy ! :
http://cj.elysiun.com
But be aware the rotation settings for the second camera shot are incorrect, they should be : Rot x 90, Rot z -90.

Have fun!

Oohhh, it is so 2001 like

Stefano

Is it just me, or does the lighting of the station and the lighting of Earth not match?

S68 : What a nice thing to say !
Erufailon : You’re right. But never mind.

Very nice work, the earth looks sort of funny but the ship is very nice. But the lighting is a little to bright IMO.
