OK, this is my first post here, though I’ve been coming here for tips since I first started trying to learn Blender in earnest about a year ago. I’ve been trying to re-design a spaceship I did while at uni, using 3DSMax, although that went somewhat down the tube when I was trying to figure out how to make something other than a cube!
Anyway, this is somewhat Babylon 5 inspired (as you can probably guess!), and although it currently looks like an Omega Class Destroyer, that WILL change.
Incidentally, this is also the first ship I’ve designed in 3D after roughing it out on paper first, instead of just doing a stream of “I wonder if this’d be cool.” attempts.
Very nice for a start, I like all the little greebly bits you have done in there. I have no idea what this part is yet, but i’m sure I will work it out in time. Anyway, very good for a start, keep it up!
(By the way, never be afraid to stream ideas right from your head, sometimes they can be better than a pre-prepared design…not always though)
If you need any help with certain aspects of blender, or just need some general info just give me a shout and i’ll do my best.
Remeber that you can always use texture in areas of the ship that aren’t always too visible, like nooks and crannies in the main shape, not everything has to be modeled, got to love textures. Greebling is always a good thing to start practicing early when making spacecraft, though, so it makes me supa-happy to see you so into it already.
Gaaaah, sometimes working in retail sucks! I’ve been so tired the last week or so that I’ve done nothing on this model until last night. I decided to give the main hull a rest (as it’s mostly detailed greebling to be done) and so I started on the engines.
This is about 50% done compared to what I have in my head, no texturing as yet.
Main hull is only roughed out still. Until last night, I literally haven’t touched the model since my first postings. We might not have Black Friday in England, but pay weekend before xmas is eeeeeevil anyway!
