Hi guys!
This was a one-day project, and i’m pretty pleased with it. I am making the graphics for my school (Sanderson Spartans), and they asked me for a helmet, kind of like the current logo.
Here is what I came up with, i’ll post the website that it’s going on in a few days, when it goes up hopefully.
Yes I know that it uses the Uffizi probe, but none of the people at my school have seen it, so it will be cool to them, I hope…
As you might have guessed, the lower one it what is going on the site,
well the concept is nice, but the implementation could have been better. I mean the model looks a little low poly and jaggie in a few places. One has to be careful using the HDR maps as they reveal a lot of modeling glitches. A high poly model is always gives better results.
Also the material, it is not photoreal. I would suggest to take a few photo references (probably placed in museums as they have better lighting) and match the materials. Also the fur could have better materials maybe.
a little tweaking here can make the thing a real beauty. I think you should go on and make this one real good.
As to the model: I agree with Garphik that the model looks jagged in a few places, I also think the feathery (?) part could be rendered using the Alpha version of Blender that is out on the site, so that they render with shadows on each other, adding to realism. The reflection is also too perfect, I suggest playing with the Fresnel values. The Bright Red background also takes away from the model- Try a blended sky, like from black to red, and set AO on Sky Texture, and it will render the Ambient Occulsion based on the color of the sky. You should either do that, or put the HDRI image as a background color and render with AO that way.
yea, i admit it’s not perfect, but it’s going to be about 80 by 80 pixels big, so it doesn’t need to be. If i find some extra time, i will certainly make it good, but don’t expect anything in the next couple of days.
