Special effects question

Does anyone know of any good tutorials on how to create some really killer special effects in blender game engine? Like glowing objects and multi colored rays of light? I like the work Glenn did on Duk Duk but I can’t seem to find any good tutorials for this kind of stuff. Like how do you make a gun that shoots electricity or a lava gun like you’d see in Rachet and Clank?

Use animated alpha-mapped planes for electricity. Alpha-mapped planes for light rays too. Probably halo planes for a lava gun to give a particle effect.

Good thoughts but how do you have the electricity emit from a gun to different distances and register a hit on a target? Also, does anyone know of a way to make a lighted gun site target move on the ground, up walls and over objects like the one used in Ratchet and Clank?

I’ve never played R&C, but I believe Nanoshooter had a laser site type thing…
