This is an expanded and slightly more developed version of my Blender Artist Weekend Challenge banner contest entry (“spooky” theme).
This new HD version was requested by gregzaal. I’m posting it here in case anyone was interested

The original image was developed at the contest resolution of 968x150 pixels:
Creating the hi-def version required more vertical content to make it work, so I spent a couple of hours trying to address that in various ways at this aspect ratio
All in all, about five hours (approximately three for the WC entry + 2 for full screen version).
As with the WC entry, this was done in Blender 2.49.
Thank you for posting that. It has just confused me to be honest Was it really that necessary to have such a dense mesh? how long was the render…?
